WD MyBook World Edition II NAS Reviews

Goes offline for no reason several times per day. Very s-l-o-w, can't get files copied to it because it keeps going offline. I really don't even care about remote access (which is a bait and switch, extra monthly or annual cost option), or the fact that the included Retrospect backup software is pretty useless, I would still be very happy with it if it would just stay online and let me access my files.

WD MyBook World Edition II NAS is the second drive I've had. I will not buy another. First one just quit working and second one will not fire up. WD does not hold true to their warranty and they were not much help. Finally they gave me a 3rd replacement after much discussion. You can not let it run attached to a server than runs 24/7 and you can not attach it to external back up power. It is really not a NAS. It is more of a single source BU unit. Move on to something more reliable.

I use WD MyBook World Edition II NAS product as a straight NAS. I plugged it in my router and I was up and running in 5 minutes.I use mine to backup a couple computers over the network. The file sharing feature (with Mionet software) is pretty cool too.In terms of value, this is the best deal I found. There are also many ways to improve the device if you look online for ''hack my book world edition''.I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a well built NAS at a great price.

This product is a perfect solution for me since I travel a lot and need shared storage that I can access remotely. It also has a cool feature that allows you to take control of your PC. Another good thing is the RAID 1 capabilities which allows me to mirror my data.

This book is a POS. Seriously. The thing has hidden cost, as mentioned above. In addition, the MIONET software needed to run the remote file access, is NOT compatible with Vista 64. Is that my fault that I require an OS that allows above 3.5 G of ram? The ''support'' was beyond shady. The towley who I spoke with was absolutely unwilling to help me find a solution or setup my Vista 32 system. Totally, a POS. WD will never EVER see any more of my business after this one. If they are reading this I will be returning this an DC'ing or RMA'ing all WD products from my business.Ryan H.Apple Valley PC, LLCAppleValleyPC.comWenatchee, Washington
