Although I've always had a good opinion of TrendNet products, they are clearly out of their league when it comes to gigabit-class products. TRENDnet TEG-S5 Network Switch piece of junk can't ''talk'' the language of gigabit to anything that's more than about 6 feet away from it, and TRENDnet TEG-S5 Network Switch includes other TrendNet products. Your connection can even vary from reboot to reboot. Now, it's a gigabit/sec connection. Tomorrow, it's a 100 Mbit/sec connection. Crazy!Then again, it may well be that it's Realtek that doesn't have its act together, since TrendNet's NICs and switches all seem to be based on the Realtek chipset.Other considerations:- Gigabit is very finicky. It ALWAYS balks at crappy wiring- Wiring MUST be category 5e or above- All 4 pairs (eight wires) MUST be wired straight through. No exceptions, because all eight wires are used in parallel
