Linksys NAS200 NAS Reviews

Linksys NAS200 NAS unit has NO COOLING! Modern hard drives put out alot of heat. Cooling is virtually mandatory for anything over 320GB. WD My Book 500GB units fail regularly for Linksys NAS200 NAS reason - read the reviews for yourself. I strongly advise not using large drives with this unit. After readng about the My Book failures, I opened my NAS 200, only to find that my drives would suffer the same fate. I switched to 80GB drives to reduce the heat. Then I bought a higher end item for 470.00 with a 120mm fan in the back. This is good for light duty at best. Linksys really dropped the ball with this thing!

Easy to setup and use. I've had to replace the Hard Drives twice due to thermal issues. My main reason in buying this was to save money. The cost of replacing the drives once would have made up the difference to a higher end unit with fans.

I set this up for my office. It HAS a cooling fan that runs quiet. I Used WD SATA 500GB hard drives that just plug in. The file sharing and user access took me an hour to setup but it works quite well. I have 5 users and this lets me set passwords and I can block access to private files/folders so each user gets only what I choose. I agree that it is a little slow at times but it has worked out very well for me. (well enough that I am getting one for home, too)

I picked up one of these network storage devices and installed 2 500 Gig HDD from Western Digital. It works great. The network speed is 33% of 100 mbps if this helps anyone wondering how fast they are running for speed.

Very happy with the box. I put a couple of refurbished 500GB drives into it and had a network attached, terabyte backup solution. Sure, it's a little slow, but it hasn't been a problem for my use. It would be even better if it offered more RAID options, but for my uses the four options (JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, separate disks) are enough. I've got it set up on RAID 1 because I'm a little paranoid. The NTI Shadow software that's included works seamlessly and makes sure that I am always backed up, as soon as I save a file. It's a great feeling! Highly recommended product!
