A nice internet gadget though pricey. Startup is fast and the battery charge is nice indeed! Too bad the interface is geared for an 9 year old, big 'option' buttons. There is no control panel to change theme, or apply a desktop background. There is a change theme option that allows you to change up to 3 colors, no big deal. I suggest you visit the Asus user fourm before deciding spending almost $700 for Asus Eee PC 1000 unit. There are issues with downloading updates for the PC 1000 Linux, may not download or, are all but impossible to locate. One day they are available and another day not. There is a F9 key that restores to factory pre-set, but you will loose at least 1 software that I'm aware of. Thunderbird mail client disappears after a F9 restore, and unable to download from FoxFire site. So many issues you will notice on the users forum, and Asus should have ironed out these before rolling out the PC 1000 linux. Of course you can purchase an external optical device to load another OS.
